Abstract FAQs

Why is Medicine 2020 being postponed?

As a leading health organisation aimed at improving patient care and preventing disease in the UK and globally, the RCP takes seriously its responsibility to protect clinicians and the public from contracting COVID-19 and to ensure that the NHS is as prepared as it can be for increased demand.

As most of those attending the annual conference are doctors and other health professionals, this move signals the RCP’s concern to protect the NHS frontline workforce as best it can.

When has Medicine 2020 been rescheduled to?

The confirmed date is 7-8 January 2021.

The confirmed venue is the ICC Birmingham.

Will my abstract still be accepted to present on rescheduled conference dates?

Absolutely, all delegate bookings and accepted abstracts will be automatically transferred to the rescheduled conference date of 7-8 January 2021 at the ICC Birmingham.

What if I can’t make the new date?

We’re sorry you’re unable to make the new date. Is there an additional author who could present the work at Medicine 2020? Please email us at medicine@rcplondon.ac.uk to discuss how we can assist your team in presenting your work.

If there are no alternatives and you would like to proceed with cancelling your place and abstract presentation, please email us at medicine@rcplondon.ac.uk to request your full refund. Please note that we are unable to process refunds within 14 days of the event. All refunds will be made via the original payment method. Please note that if you request a refund, then you are cancelling your place; with no alternative author to present, you will lose your presentation slot.

I have already submitted my abstract. Do I need to resubmit this?

If you wish to present your abstract at the rescheduled conference on 7-8 January 2021, you do not need to submit a new version of your abstract as your submission will be transferred to the new dates.

Will my abstract still be published in the RCP journals Future Healthcare Journal and Clinical Medicine?

Yes. Successful abstracts will be published online in one of the RCP journals in the very near future. We will notify you once your abstract has gone live.

Will new abstract submissions be accepted for the rescheduled conference?

We will announce a late-breaking abstract submission window on 23 April. Please check back on the website for confirmed dates.

Late-breaking abstracts will also be published in one of the RCP journals shortly after the conference in 2021.

Will I be able to amend my accepted abstract?

You will no longer be able to amend abstracts submitted in 2019 as they are due for imminent publication.
