Our abstract competition is a fantastic way to get your research recognised on a national platform. In May 2019 we put out the first call for research and chose the successful abstracts to be presented at Medicine 2020. As the pandemic hit, we reopened our abstract competition to highlight ongoing research around the COVID-19.
Although Medicine 2021 will be virtual, authors of all successful abstracts will have the chance to discuss their work with speakers at the conference.
With this in mind, we are delighted to announce that Medicine 2021 will host a virtual poster and abstract showcase as part of our dedicated digital event space. Comprising the successful Medicine 2020 published abstracts and the late-breaking COVID-19 specific submissions – we will offer an e-poster presentation gallery for delegates to view at their leisure. Submissions will be grouped under the following themes:
- Education, training and medical professionalism
- Health services and policy
- Quality improvement and patient safety
- Research and innovation
In addition to publication in one of the RCP’s journals, all accepted abstracts will be presented as an e-poster with the opportunity to provide a supplementary a 3-minute PowerPoint presentation at the digital event.

The prizes will remain as:
- the presenter of the winning abstract will receive £1,000
- two runners-up will both receive £500 each
- all successful abstracts will be published in one of the RCP’s journals after the Medicine 2021 conference
- presenters of the winning abstracts will each receive two tickets for the Harveian Oration and dinner in October 2021.
DEADLINE for submission: Please email your e-poster to firstname.lastname@example.org by no later than EOD on 2 November 2020.
Optional supplementary PowerPoint presentation
An e-poster is an electronic version of the poster you were going to have printed out for show at Medicine 2020. We ask that you submit a single A4 pdf file showcasing your published abstract. You are welcome to include images you have the correct permissions to share and any colours, charts and logos added as necessary (no animations or videos). We require between 8–10 font size for consistency and viewing ease on screens.
We want to offer you the opportunity to personally discuss and present your findings to the delegation so invite you to submit a 3–5 minute PowerPoint presentation, including MP4 video for inclusion with your e-poster.
This activity is entirely optional and non-submission will have no bearing on your e-poster being showcased or your eligibility for prizes. Download the slides
DEADLINE for submission: Please email your PowerPoint to email@example.com by no later than EOD on 2 November 2020.
